In 17 years of history, Columbia College has been moving forward aggressively to achieve its goal to develop programs and systems for our community and the members. Now, it has resulted in who we are in Washington D.C. Metropolitan area.
Columbia College was established in Virginia on October 17, 1999 to meet the region’s need to support the growing industry and business especially for the immigrant population seeking for a step forward for their American Dream. Now, we have hundreds of students from all over world and we are one of the leading ESL institutes in our community. Columbia College ESL curriculum is designed for the students who have difficulties to communicate fluently or learn effectively in English often coming from non-English-speaking backgrounds including international students and immigrants. The program includes American culture, history, or trend of the society in order to make the students understand better in the culture as well as the language. The location in Washington D.C., the capital of the United States is the one of the advantages we have because the American cultural heritage is still alive everywhere in this area.
The ESL program is adapted the best seller ESL books and utilize assorted media resources to enrich the contents. Furthermore, our tremendous instructors whose commitment to intellectual quality and integrity to education is the powerful spur to the progression of the College. They are putting forth their best effort in supporting our students as mentors, advisors, and positive role models.
Additional campuses were opened, one in Silver Spring, Maryland and the other in Centreville, Virginia to accommodate individuals who resided in those areas and the schedule is also very flexible from the morning, evening, and the weekend to minimize the restrictions the student may have.
Columbia College is certified to operation in State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) and Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) and was nationally accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE) in 2007 and the ACICS in 2014 which represent its quality education.
Also, FAFSA, federal financial aid programs is available to those who qualify. Therefore, the students who already have their own skills in certain careers but can’t find a job due to the language proficiency are able to find the chance after the College ESL program.
Another advantage of Columbia College ESL program is the online for the students who have limitations to take on-site classes. It is also designed and utilized varied resources such as recording lectures, educational games, and activities with the homeroom teachers to keep up with the class.
