Peter Trofimenko and The American Balalaika Symphony welcome in the new year with A Russian New Year Balalaika Bash, featuring three masters of Russian music – renowned balalaika virtuoso Andrei Gorbachev, Russian concert pianist Natalia Skatokhina, and balalaika soloist with the Yakutiya State Concert Orchestra and Merited Artist of the Republic of Sakha, Dmitri Shvetsov – performing together for the first time in the U.S. In addition, special guest conductor, Iullia Shvetsova, also with the Yakutiya State Concert Orchestra, will conduct the second half of the program. It should be a very special evening.
Spotlighting their extraordinary talent, the first half of the program will feature Gorbachev on balalaika and Shatokina on piano, opening with Fantasy on Gershwin’s ‘Porgy and Bess’ and Introduction and Czardas, followed by Concerto Buffa for Balalaika, Piano and Orchestra. The second half of the program, conducted by Iullia Shvetsova, will feature a balalaika solo by Dmitri Shvetsov, and a medley of balalaika duets by Gorbachev and Shevetson, in addition to ABS New Year favorites. All in all, an extraordinary performance you won’t want to miss!
